Ratu Rizkitasari Saraswati was born on January 6, 1990 in Jakarta, Indonesia

Having participated in numerous exhibition since 2009, Saraswati has begun to put her passion towards the making of performance videos and live performances since 2011. She graduated from Institut Teknologi Bandung Faculty of Art and Design and received her Bachelor of Art in Printmaking in 2013. In the same year, she was one of the finalists of Indonesia Art Award. In 2015, she completed a 6-months art residency in San Art, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She is currently living and working in Jakarta, her hometown.

Saraswati’s focus is to revisit the interpersonal values of art. The meaningful encounters developed from the individual, collaborative, and participatory performance are what are most valuable in her practice. She believes that artistic endeavors are expansive for human empathy and a sincere common ground within the realm of the psyche. Her works are the results of her continuous reflections upon her mental health condition. Throughout the years, it has shaped her interpretations of both her personal experiences and collective narratives, sharing what often remains taboo amid today’s increasing intolerance. Within the journey, she has discovered that the profound relationships built through art making are leading her to a deeper truth of owning our wellness. Art has the ability to repair the social bond between humans, and the principal of her artistry is to become the medium of that process.

In Bahasa Indonesia, the phrase ‘Tanah Air’ refers to our homeland or motherland and nation. The direct English translation of ‘Tanah Air’ is soil (and) water – two words that define our natural archipelago. In ’Optik-Optik Kecil’ (‘Tiny Optics’), the artist welcomes participants in a familiar yet uncanny landscape of our current habitat, toward the intersections between stories that resonate throughout our activated senses.

The event will be conducted beginning at dawn of the days during the fasting month, Ramadhan. This participatory gathering implies a chance to devote ourselves to the present time, allowing the world around us to disclose its secrets. In ‘Optik-Optik Kecil’, Saraswati makes a plea to regain our collectivity through dialogues of perspectives or ‘ways of seeing’ which is the essential substance of living. Hence, we can work towards bringing the ideas of the godly garden to our own land.
